I did a blog post about a month ago where I chronicled all the music I listened to, where I had encountered the record, where I listened to it online, and how I felt about it.
And that week I listened to close to 30 records and didn’t find anything that I wanted to add to my collection.
The next week I went back to listen to more as it’s part of my job and I said fuck it. That’s an awful lot of work and not much payoff.
Which is exactly how I think a lot of music fans feel about their ability to find new music. But I’m over coming that bad week of listening and getting back on it.
One of the main points I blog about vis a vis music and the music business is that I am a listener as well as a recording engineer and a small label, so I think I understand more clearly than most folks in the music business how hard it is to find new music.
For the umpteenth time you would not believe how little listening is done by the music business.
