The Fair Labor Association, a watchdog monitoring working conditions at makers of Apple Inc. products, has uncovered “tons of issues” that need to be addressed at a Foxconn Technology Group plant in Shenzhen, China, FLA Chief Executive Officer Auret van Heerden said.
Despite the miracle of modern marketing you can not have your cake, have your cake at a great price, and have a chef that got paid well.
So this isn’t just about working conditions at Apple factories, it’s about a dynamic within capitalism.
How poorly can humans be paid and treated so that other humans will get goods and services at a great price that makes companies profitable?
That’s a judgment call as Apple is finding out. They thought they had a situation that was acceptable and profitable but it turns out not to be the case.
