From Reuters here:
President Barack Obama on Friday vetoed legislation allowing families of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks to sue Saudi Arabia, which could prompt Congress to overturn his decision with a rare veto override, the first of his presidency.
Obama said the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act would hurt U.S. national security and harm important alliances, while shifting crucial terrorism-related issues from policy officials into the hands of the courts.
Obama is really in a pickle on this issue as he’s fighting upstream against 9/11 families and the politicians who are supporting them in their effort to sue Saudi Arabia for any role they played in the events of 9/11.
What if families in Yemen drag Uncle Sam into court saying that the use of drones that murdered their relatives is illegal? And it might damned well be….
Obama is going to be on the receiving end of that lawsuit as he and his hand picked crew of American patriots sits in the White House every Tuesday night and decides who gets droned.
I’m for this legislation in a big way.
