From Cracked here:
The rural folk with the Trump signs in their yards say their way of life is dying, and you smirk and say what they really mean is that blacks and gays are finally getting equal rights and they hate it. But I’m telling you, they say their way of life is dying because their way of life is dying. It’s not their imagination.
Most folks don’t know that Martin Luther King wrote about the suffering of poor white people. During the election cycle the suffering of poor white people has been scorned and ignored.
So poor white people complain about black people, and upper middle class white people shit on poor white people, and we’ll end up with a candidate that will service her friends and screw everybody else.
Poor white people and poor black people have more in common than poor white people and upper middle class white people have in common. It would be a huge step forward if people understood how often racism and dividing people who have shared interests has occurred in America. You’re not just a hateful scumbag when you adopt racist beliefs, you’re fucking yourself and your interests over by falling into a trap somebody else has made for you.
