Music for 11/15/16!!! Jayda G., A Tribe Called Quest, Bon Jovi, Run the Jewels

@@@ Jayda G.: Sixth Spirit of the Bay EP (1080p, 2016). Wow, people are really bringing back these ’80s electronic sounds. This is instrumental ’80s music — I don’t really know what to say in addition to that. I would never shit on the personal sonic preferences of others (unless it’s a Bon Jovi record) If you’re yearning for it this delivers it in spades.

@@@ Bon Jovi: This House is Not for Sale (Island, 2016). Speaking of which, let’s peep the new NJ banger from JBJ without original guitarist Richie Sambora. On the opener (the title track) it sounds like Bon Jovi ate Jon Mellencamp, but with plenty of cheese sauce. Macaroni and Mellencamp! Let’s peep more. The second tune, Living with the Ghost, is U2 arrangment but with special JBJ cheese sauce. This is a huge chunk of mainstream ass — I can’t see any reason to listen to this except for low self-esteem of you’re related to Jon Bon Jovi.

@@@ A Tribe Called Quest: We Got if From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service (Epic, 2016). Oh man, Q-Tip has almost ultimate flow on the mic. And the rest of MCs are extremely skilled. This first tune is very stylish with smart lyrics and classic Tribe funk with George Clinton dookie stick vibes. I’m surprised at the political lyrics and they’re sharp as shit and on point. This second tune is as fat as the first one, I pray to God they keep the ball rollin’. The third and fourth tunes still sound great but they fade a bit, but Imma have to swing back on this record when I have time to rock this whole record.

@@@ Run the Jewels: 2100 (featuring Boots) (Run the Jewels, Inc, 2016). A single off the Apple Music Hot Tracks section. I haven’t been a huge fan of previous efforts but I’m a big Killer Mike fan and this tune has urgency that seems very timely. The lyrics are about trying to find some peace in this world and having to fight even though your heart may not be in it. The arrangement revolves around a slow rotating synth drone melody and there are multiple MCs bringing the heat.
