“There will be no return to a world before globalisation,” they wrote.
“We owe it to our companies and our citizens, indeed to the entire world community, to broaden and deepen our co-operation.”
The two leaders voiced support for the proposed Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the US and the EU.
This looks like such a sensible comment. Progress, progress, progress! But we just saw what happens when you put companies ahead of large numbers of citizens — your Presidental legacy gets crushed.
It is high time for many in our society to recognize that companies and citizens often have opposite agendas. Citizens want jobs and companies want to have as few employees as possible.
But it’s good to see that Obama is willing to down with the ship of neoliberal bullshit.
