From the Guardian here:
The fact that violent crime is down, Gingrich explained on CNN, is of less import than the fact that “people feel more threatened. Liberals have a whole set of statistics which theoretically may be right but are not how human beings are. As a political candidate, I’ll go with how people feel, and I’ll let you go with theoreticians.”
The whole basis for propaganda is manipulating the irrational, subconcious desires of people to do things you want them to do. And this manipulation is in the political sphere but is much more prevalent in our daily lives in advertising and marketing.
People are told things that make them feel better and point them towards consumption. The use of all manner of outrageous statements and spectacle is something that preceded Trump by decades.
Why do you think Trump met with Kanye West? They’re the same person, using spectacle and outrage as fuel for their own ambitions. The idea that people should give a shit about the truth when everybody has been lied to, deceived, and bullshitted since the end of World War I when war time propaganda was adopted for use in boosting consumption.
