@@@ Angel Du$t: Rock the Fuck On Forever (Pop Wig Records, 2016). Some crispy punk nuggets off a record I got to via the CFUV volunteer favorite records of 2016. Very skilled drummer, he’s really driving the bus and I’m reaching for the volume knob for this second tune. I think this is what Dave Growl wanted the Foo Fighters to be before he got ass rich. This has elements of ol’ School Orange County Fat Wrechords (spelling?) sing a long punk, and the Foos as we’ve mentioned. Great music to drink a lot of beer to and then go burn down Trump’s house!
@@@ Gouge Away: , Dies (Gouge Away, 2016). From the same CFUV gent or lady (can’t remember) and it’s much rougher. It’s got more metal swirled in but still retains punk elements. The singer is awesome, he sounds like he’s about to barf his tongue and he rides on waves of high energy. Sweet. Let’s peep more. These tunes range from 50 seconds to just over 3 minutes with the bulk of them around a minute and a half so these tunes come in commando style and rock you Seal Team 6 style. Except they don’t kill you. I will have to swing back on this record as it is some heartfelt business. As I always say let those bad feelings out, they will fuck you up if you don’t.
@@@ Mark Pritchard: Under the Sun (Warp, 2016). Over at albumoftheyear.org they have tons of best of 2016 lists so Imma peeping this one from CRACK. It’s a break from our previous two listens it’s an ambient jam, opening up with a tune called ? which consists in its early sections as an oscillating fluff and a slow dialing sound. More elements enter the mix over its six minutes and it’s a solidly focused first piece. Let’s peep more. The second tune is more of a tune with vocals and I dig it less. I’ve nibbled at pieces of five tunes and I liked the ambient opener best. It’s not that I hate them, I just dig the slowness.
@@@ Havoc & the Alchemist: The Silent Partner (Babygrande, 2016). Another record off the CRACK top 100 list and it’s a throwback ’90s sounding hip hop record. It’s pretty tough without being full gangster business. I like the beats and a bunch of the sounds, it’s solid hip hop for the style that it is. Reminiscent of the Wu and a tad of Fugees flavor.
