Music for 7/13/17!!! Human Potential, Lucky Boys Confusion, Between the Rain, Lola Marsh

@@@ Human Potential: Guilder (What Delicate Recordings, 2017)  A preview experimental electronic single that I got to from a music publicist email.  It begins well with a sparse bell sounding wave.   To my ears it probably began life as a guitar sound.  It is a circular repeating sound that he gradually adds to with different frequencies and tones.  The sound grows slowly in length and in volume and I really like it.  I would go bananas if I could hear the sound of two dogs fornicating on top of this sound.  Oh, c’mon, it’s jut a joke.  I don’t know if the rest of the album will be great, but check this out it’s a fat track.

@@@ Lucky Boys Confusion: Stormchasers (Townstyle, 2017)  Earnest American rock with small punk rock flavorings that I got to via the Indiepulse music blog.  Soul Asylum, a schmear of the Replacements, and dozens of other rock bands.  It’s a lot of guitar power chords and the singer has that tired, slack vibe to both his lyrics and his tone.  I dig the contrast between the urgent tempos and the tired singer.

@@@ Between the Rain: Mudroom (Self-released, 2016)  I got to this hard rock single from a music publicist email and I’m peeping it as two of the 3 members are African American and I dig it when the brothers and sisters get to rocking.  This is in the tradition of Jane’s Addiction and Torche, but it’s got some wrinkles both in the guitar playing and the drumming.  I’m peeping another single called Wartorn Statues and it’s more of a slow burner but I dig this rhythm section and I hope they do well.  The drummer is pretty interesting for this genre for sure.

@@@ Lola Marsh: Remember Roses (Anova Music, 2017)  This is seasonal indie — hey can I trademark that term the way Jay Z and Beyonce trademarked their babies’ names.  Seasonal indie is bittersweet but not full sad with a fair share of pleasing, poppy sounds swirled up in the bittersweet.  Here we have a female singer rocking both a dreamy and cute vibe with a perky band behind her.  Let’s peep more.  The production is manicured like a porn stars va-jay-jay and it’s competent playing but to my ears it’s a corporate indie rock nugget.  I’m sure Pitchfork is spilling jism over this — it’s dramatical and epic and sale-able.  Sale-able, people, that’s where it’s at.
